Abstract

This study introduced a teaching design of a classroom action research (CAR) for students at STIE Widya Gama Lumajang through the implementation of SQ3R strategy to solve the students' incompetence on reading comprehension skill. As the result of the preliminary study indicated that the students' problems toward their reading ability can mostly be classified into four problems: (1) lack of vocabularies, (2) the poorness of reading comprehension, (3) lack of ideas of technique to comprehend, and (4) rather afraid to read. Therefore, the criteria of success were directed to the implementation of SQ3R. The results indicated that the implementation of SQ3R Strategy in the guided activity with circle and also demanding the students to involve actively, the students' read ing comprehension ability improved and the students' partici pation i n the classroom was highly positive.
